Kombud Group has introduced an approach to implementing ETCS Level 1 Limited Supervision (ETCS L1 LS), designed to replace decommissioned Class B systems across European rail networks.

The Kombud Group solution aims to reduce investment requirements by eliminating the need for GSM-R networks and enabling deployment on various infrastructure types, including electrical, computer, and mechanical systems.

ETCS L1 LS, as developed by Kombud Group engineers, addresses operational challenges such as signal-passed-at-danger incidents while offering compatibility with a wide range of European railway systems. The system has been recommended by the Polish Association of Engineers (SITK RP) as a viable option for upgrading existing infrastructure.

The group is also pursuing international markets with tailored solutions for countries like Slovakia, Ukraine, and Romania. For other regions, Kombud plans to supply components such as point machines, signals, and ETCS elements in compliance with European interoperability standards. However, the company has noted the high market entry barriers in some areas.

The company’s investment in research and development, supported by a robotic balise production line and R&D laboratory in Warsaw, underpins its ongoing work in ETCS innovations and other railway traffic control technologies.
