This upgrade, worth about 270 million euros, will have driverless trains across the network by 2033. The first phase will start in 2030.

By 2033, trains will run automatically and without drivers, making the new S-bane the world's largest automatic urban railway.
Jürgen Müller, Director Strategy & Train Equipment at DSB, highlighted the future benefits: "The Copenhagen S-bane will become one of the world’s largest and most complex fully automated mass transit systems, offering more trains and better services during off-peak hours."
The upgrade will be done in five stages. The first stage will be the F-Line between København Syd and Hellerup. This will not affect current services. The second stage will be a mix of existing GoA2 trains and new driverless GoA4 trains. These will run together until all new trains are delivered by 2038.
Peter Jonasson, Director of Construction at Banedanmark, said: "The CBTC system has already shown its benefits, and we hope this project will improve the S-bane even more."
This will improve the S-bane, which handles up to 84 trains per hour and serves about 350,000 daily commuters. As Copenhagen’s population grows, the upgraded, driverless S-bane will help the city cope with the expansion and improve public transport.
