A new intermodal and electric approach to transporting goods is being implemented through the collaboration between Innofreight, Silo Riedel, and Knauf.

The initiative focuses on the transportation of natural gypsum mined from a quarry in Tragöß, approximately 120 kilometers away from Knauf's headquarters in Weißenbach bei Liezen, using a combination of rail and electric trucks.

The natural gypsum is transported in Innofreight’s CityLogistics Containers, specialized for construction materials handling. These 20 ft containers can carry up to 120 tons of construction materials, excavation waste, and rubble in combined transport. The containers are designed for flexibility in unloading, equipped with a flap that allows for unloading via rotary unloading forklifts or tipping chassis. To safeguard the environment and local communities, the transported materials are secured with a tarp to prevent any particles from escaping.

For the transportation process, the gypsum is loaded onto CityLogistics Containers at Tragöß and moved to the freight station in Kapfenberg by electric trucks. There, the containers are transferred onto 2x40 ft InnoWaggons using forklifts for their railway journey to Weißenbach.

To support the electric trucks used in this operation, a dedicated refueling station has been established adjacent to the Innofreight headquarters. This station, equipped with superchargers, ensures the trucks can be quickly recharged and ready for use.
