Intermodal traffic revived in late September and early October with new connections in the United Kingdom, Austria, France, and Australia. In addition, seasonal sugar beet traffic started in Hungary.


Roland Spedition: Renewed connection of Wilmelshaven and Austria

From October 2023, Roland Spedition will again connect Austrian Enns, Vienna and Graz with the port of Wilmelshaven. The train departs from Austria on Saturdays and from EUROGATE Container Terminal Wilmelshaven on Mondays.

Freightliner UK: 25 additional weekly services

From 2 October 2023, Freightliner will launch a new short-haul service to compete with trucks on the Felixstowe port to Daventry route and a new route serving DP World’s Felixstowe terminal with Cardiff. Among other new services starting on this date are Grangemouth to Daventry, Southampton to Leeds and Cardiff, Felixstowe to Manchester and Daventry, Manchester to Birmingham, Birmingham to London Gateway and Birmingham to Felixstowe.

GB Railfreight: Felixstowe to Daventry three times a week

Freightliner UK is not the only rail freight carrier in the UK now offering the short-haul option between Felixstowe and Daventry. GBRf also started the service at the end of September, with trains running on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. In addition, a new Felixstowe to Scotland service is expected to be announced on 9 October 2023.

Captrain France: Successful test of P400s on the Rennes to Lille service

On 20 September 2023, Captrain France successfully tested P400 semi-trailers transport on the route connecting Hauts-de-France with Brittany. The test succeeded in cooperation with Lahaye Global Logistics, enabling increased rail shift between Rennes and Lille.

Railcare: LKAB Malmtrafik extends the agreement for iron ore traffic

The iron ore traffic agreement of Swedish mining railway company LKAB Malmtraffik with Railcare was extended, worth over 6 million euros, until the end of 2024. The iron ore transports will run between Svappavaara-Kiruna and Svappavaara-Gällivare.

Rail Cargo Hungary: Almost half a million tons of sugar beets in the current campaign

Rail Cargo Hungaria (RCH) will transport up to 470,000 tons of sugar beets in the campaign launched in September 2023 and will end in January 2024. It will load at 40 different locations, delivering to Magyar Cukor Zrt.'s factory in Kaposvár. On average, four trains a day will run during the campaign every single day.

Aurizon: A new Melbourne – Sydney – Brisbane container service

With Team Global Express (TGE) as a cornerstone customer, Aurizon started the operation of intermodal trains between Melbourne, the Glenlee terminal in Sydney and Brisbane. This is the third Aurizon’s Containerised Freight business interstate service after launching two Melbourne-Perth services in April and July 2023.
