On the opening day of the Rail Business Days 2025 fair in Ostrava, Czech Republic, METRANS unveiled a new addition to its fleet—part of an ongoing delivery of ten Vectron electric locomotives from Siemens Mobility.
The updated livery, symbolizing METRANS' pan-European reach, underscores the company’s ability to connect maritime and inland terminals across the continent. Its network extends from Adriatic ports such as Koper, Trieste, and Rijeka to the Baltic Sea port of Gdańsk, while key routes continue to link North Sea ports—including Rotterdam and Bremerhaven, but primarily Hamburg—to Central Europe and further toward the Black Sea in Romania and Turkey.
METRANS currently operates 40 Alstom Traxx locomotives, now surpassed by its growing fleet of Siemens Vectrons, which is expected to reach 60 units by the end of 2025. Roman Kokšal, General Manager of Siemens Mobility in Czechia, confirmed that METRANS has an option for ten more units, which would bring the total number of electric locomotives in the fleet to 110.
Martin Hořínek, Managing Director of METRANS Rail, announced that following the recent acquisitions of licenses in Serbia and Romania, METRANS is actively working to extend its operations deeper into the Eastern Balkans also — supporting all the way to Istanbul, where it already operates services with growing volumes of freight transported from Asia via the Middle Corridor.
By developing alternative routes—either through Romania and Hungary, or via Bulgaria and Serbia — METRANS aims not only to serve markets in these countries but also to mitigate risks by offering dual routing options. Meanwhile, construction continues on a new hub terminal in Zalaegerszeg, Hungary, which will serve as a strategic transloading point at the intersection of flows from Turkey and the Black Sea with those heading to and from Adriatic ports.
