Here are the latest new connections and additional news from rail freight operators in Europe:


Ecco-rail with its own licence in Hungary

Austrian ecco-rail has founded a Hungarian company, ecco-rail Kft. HU. It started its first train on 20 May 2023. It was an intermodal Curtici – Duisburg train for Routier European Transport and will keep doing so three times a week. Ecco rail provided its own traction on the entire route across Hungary, Austria, and Germany.

RTC started wood transport to Austria

After natural causes increased wood harvest in South Tyrol, rail freight has come to help. Rail Traction Company (RTC) started its first timber train from Bolzano’s “Siberia Terminal”, which is open to all companies to load timber at this spot. RTC provided its EffiShunter 1000 locomotive for shunting purposes here. Timber is transported to Austria in cooperation with Rail Cargo Austria for processing in the Tyrol region. Up to three trains with 18 wagons are planned per week in the near future.

Kombiverkehr strengthens the main north-south rail freight artery

The northern Italian terminal in Mortara now has better access to ports in Rotterdam and Duisburg. Thanks to Kombiverkehr, it is now connected to the RSC Rotterdam terminal and gateway terminal Duisburg Ruhrort Hafen DUSS.

PKP Cargo Connect with a new Poznan to Duisburg/Krefeld relation

PKP Cargo Connect started a new container rail route from its Poznan Franowo terminal to Krefeld / Duisburg. The relation is open for all forwarders and customers for 20’, 40’ and 45’ containers.

VR Transpoint has taken over the next Dr19 locomotive, number 2834

SBB Cargo International leased five MS Vectron locomotives from Railpool. Two will obtain special livery; the remaining three will operate in standard silver livery with blue stripe.

After Unipetrol Doprava and ČD Cargo, also LokoTrain will test the Vectron Dual Mode locomotive in Czechia.
