These trains, which will enter service in December, focus on offering more seating capacity, superior comfort and a top speed of 160 kilometres per hour. The service now runs every 30 minutes between Nuremberg and Bamberg, providing an additional 10,000 seats per day. Eight more trains will join the fleet from June 2024, further improving regional connectivity.
Hansrüdiger Fritz, CEO DB Regio Bayern Regional Management, explains: "On the high-volume Nuremberg-Bamberg route, we will provide between 100 and 200 additional seats per train. At the same time, a train will run from Nuremberg to Bamberg and back every half hour during the day. From June 2024, we will be running even faster trains.
DB Regio Bayern and Bayerische Eisenbahngesellschaft (BEG), which plans, finances and controls regional and suburban rail transport on behalf of the Free State of Bavaria, presented the new train together with Siemens Mobility at Bamberg Central Station, followed by a press tour through Franconia. The states of Bavaria and Thuringia are investing a total of €320 million in the new train fleet to expand regional transport capacity.
