LTG Cargo is looking for suppliers of its first electric locomotives for the Lithuanian market. The number of locomotives was not specified, yet the budget circles around 100 million EUR. The contract should include a maintenance contract for at least 3 years. The number of purchased locomotives may increase in the future.
The company will put these locomotives into operation on the Vilnius to Klaipeda seaport corridor, pulling trains weighing up to 5,700 tonnes. The company expects to save around 780,000 tonnes of CO2 annually after the launch of these new locomotives.
The main motive power for LTG Cargo in Lithuania is currently 2M62(U) locomotives (around 45), almost a hundred TEM TMH and ChME3M high-cab locomotives and mostly the six-axle version of the Siemens ER20 CF locomotives, 44 of which are deployed on the broad-gauge lines across the country.
