Siemens Mobility will expand its locomotives production capacity in the Munich-Allach manufacturing plant to over 300 locomotives per year.

Siemens Mobility is expanding its manufacturing and services facility in the Bavarian Munich-Allach to meet the increasing demand for locomotives and related services. The facility, which is already one of the most modern locomotive factories in Europe, will be expanded from 50,000 m2 to 80,000 m2. This will provide additional capacity for processing new orders, optimizing production and logistics flows within the facility, and adding more office space.

The added capacity will enable the company to produce more than 300 locomotives annually and create new, highly qualified jobs in the plant.

The Allach plant, which currently employs over 1,600 people, was built in 2001 and its most successful product, the Vectron locomotive platform, was launched in 2010. Since then, more than 1,600 of these locomotives have since been sold worldwide.

This most versatile electric locomotive in Europe is in high demand and the backlog in the factory makes new customers wait for their locomotives for many month or even years. The expansion is thus a natural step to cover the demand for modern locomotives in Europe.

Apart from Vectron locomotives for alternative and direct current and the most popular multi-system locomotives, Siemens offers Vectron locomotives with diesel power module for shunting, and dual-mode locomotives too. The manufacturer has recently introduced new innovations into this platform. These include a package for adhesion and traction improvement called XLoad, or Vectron locomotives suitable for high-speed passenger rail market, reaching a maximum speed of 230 km/h.
