The project of Renfe Mercancías aims to streamline railway operations concerning automobile transport using a cloud solution backed by IoT. It represents a shift towards more efficient and precise transport operations management, aiming to elevate customer service quality.
The contract specifically entails providing and fitting IoT sensors on car-transporting wagons. Additionally, it will cover the software necessary for overseeing transport operations and wagon maintenance. This software will help track operations and feature an information portal, allowing customers to monitor the status of their goods.
Central to this system is the GPS with centralised control, enabling the observation of goods transported by Pecovasa wagons, especially when crossing borders or during terminal stops. This enhanced traceability not only adds value for customers but also aids in optimising management at terminals. With precise wagon positioning within facilities, managing maintenance plans and ascertaining exact mileage both within and outside the peninsula is simpler.
The entire system, from provisioning to commissioning, is set for completion by the first half of 2024. The system's funding comes with support from the European Union.
