The 'Rail Connected' program focuses on improving data sharing among carriers, rail operators, and terminals.

This Port of Rotterdam initiative is a part of the Rail-freight Transport Package of Measures and is supported by the Ministry of Infrastructure & Water Management and the Port of Rotterdam Authority, focusing on improving data sharing among carriers, rail operators, and terminals.

Key aspects of the program include:

  • Digital Tracking of Train Compositions: Upcoming features will allow users to monitor details of train configurations, including wagons, locomotives, and containers, thereby improving operational clarity and efficiency
  • Pre-reporting System: Participants provide weekly digital reports on the upcoming train schedules
  • ETA Implementation in 2024: This feature aims to offer accurate train arrival times using track sensors and cameras

Among the users of the program are industry leaders in the rail-freight sector. The Cabooter Group is the latest to join, marking the 25th participant, showcasing the program's growing influence and coverage in the Rotterdam rail-freight sector.

Other customers of the program include APM Terminals Maasvlakte II, Combi Terminal Twente-Rotterdam, Contargo, Danser Containerline, DB Cargo Nederland, DistriRail, DP World Intermodal, ERS Railways, Hutchison Ports Europe Intermodal, Haeger & Schmidt Logistics, Hutchison Ports ECT Rotterdam, KombiRail Europe, Lineas, LTE Logistics & Transport, Neska Container Line, Optimodal, PortShuttle, Rail Force One, Raillogix, Rail Service Center Rotterdam, Rotterdam Rail Feeding, RTB Cargo, Rotterdam World Gateway and Trimodal Europe, this means the Rotterdam rail-freight sector is largely covered.
