Optimodal Nederland B.V. is a logistics company specializing in rail container transport and intermodal logistics. Headquartered in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, the company operates at one of Europe’s most important maritime gateways connecting global trade with the European hinterland.

Founded in 1992, Optimodal organizes rail container transport between the Port of Rotterdam and inland terminals across Germany and other European markets. The company coordinates container flows together with shipping lines, freight forwarders, and railway undertakings, supporting efficient port hinterland connections across the European rail freight network.

With around 50 employees, Optimodal handled approximately 86,100 TEUs in 2024 and generated a turnover of €25.2 million.

Trimodal Logistics

Optimodal Nederland B.V. applies a trimodal transport concept linking rail, inland waterways (barge), and road transport (truck). Rail forms the backbone of this model and is used for the main transport leg between seaports and inland terminals. Transporting containers by rail enables large volumes to move efficiently while significantly reducing emissions and road congestion compared to long-distance trucking.

Quirinus Express

A key service is the Quirinus Express, a dedicated rail container shuttle between the Port of Rotterdam and Neuss (Germany). The service strengthens rail connections between the seaport and the German hinterland and supports efficient container transport corridors in Europe.

Recognition
