RTB CARGO is the rail-freight division of the RATH holding. Within years, an internationally operating group of companies has emerged from the initial regional freight operations of Rurtalbahn. Running branches in Germany, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands and Hungary, RTB CARGO is able to offer transnational rail transportation between the North sea ports and (South-) East Europe on the European freight-corridors, as well as project cargo, terminal feeding services and “last mile” deliveries.

The branches of RTB CARGO employ about 100 train drivers. The RATH holding’s education center offers regular apprenticeship opportunities and advanced vocational training for railway staff within the group, for instance, the recent qualification of national train drivers for international operations. These qualification initiatives made the change of locomotives and crews at the borders redundant and created the opportunity of offering direct shuttle connections across national borders.
