Alpha Trains and Stadler have announced that the leasing company will purchase 12 EURO9000 locomotives into its fleet. Their delivery is scheduled for 2025-2026.
The co-funding of the project comes from the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) as part of the BMDV's rail funding guideline. It will provide EUR 15 million for this contract.
EURO9000 are locomotives capable of operating under AC and DC voltage systems with up to 9 MW power output, with a 1.9MW power operating under diesel power. This engine can help the electrical power under the weaker 3kV catenary line. The locomotive enables a tractive effort of 500kN.
The partnership between Stadler and Alpha Trains has deep roots, with ROSCO owning 121 Stadler locomotives and 162 multiple-unit passenger trains.
