This initial handover is part of a test phase under a new multi-year leasing agreement between the two companies.

GATX Rail Europe has delivered the first Uacs 8063 and 8069 powder railcar to Thomas Zement’s facility in Karsdorf, Germany.

Following consultations and evaluations, Thomas Zement selected GATX Rail Europe as a leasing partner. The first railcar will be used to assess compatibility with existing loading infrastructure and to train operational staff. Full fleet deployment is expected to follow after the completion of the trial.

The leased railcars are intended to support Thomas Zement’s transport operations between Karsdorf and Poland. Loaded with cement on the outbound journey, the railcars will return carrying cement dust, a byproduct utilized in cement production at the Karsdorf facility. This transport arrangement is designed to reduce empty runs.

Additional deliveries of powder railcars are planned in the coming months as Thomas Zement continues to integrate rail transport into its logistics operations.
