The railway line was taken out of service in October 2024 due to severe weather-related damage, resulting in nearly four months of disruption.

Rail operations have restarted on the Sarajevo–Čapljina–Ploče corridor following the completion of infrastructure works in Donja Jablanica.

The Federal Ministry of Spatial Planning issued an operational permit on January 30, 2025, after the testing phase and technical inspections were concluded. Freight trains are being reintroduced first, while passenger services between Sarajevo and Ploče are scheduled to resume on February 10, 2025.

The reconstruction effort was carried out with contributions from multiple entities. A construction company provided project documentation and carried out building works, with engineering oversight from institutions in Sarajevo and Mostar. Employees of Željeznice Federacije Bosne i Hercegovine (ŽFBiH) completed the installation of track superstructure and catenary systems.
