Boluda Maritime Terminals Santander has concluded the second phase of its container terminal construction, increasing its storage capacity by 46%. This expansion, which involved an investment of 2 million euros (excluding VAT), included the refurbishment of 16,000 square meters of yard space. Additionally, a new railway siding with two Iberian gauge tracks has been commissioned, supported by a 1.4-million-euro investment from the Port Authority.

The new railway siding, featuring two 227-meter tracks on concrete slabs, is designed to handle 400-meter trains and is expected to improve the terminal’s intermodal capabilities. This development aligns with the Port Authority’s commitment to boosting rail and sea transport, thus reducing CO2 emissions and enhancing logistics efficiency.

The terminal now connects Santander with various European destinations through several weekly maritime routes. These include connections to Portugal, Cádiz, the Canary Islands, Dublin, Liverpool, Tilbury, and Rotterdam. In the first half of the year, container traffic at the Port of Santander reached 71,344 TEUs, a 244.8% increase compared to the same period in 2023.

Boluda Shipping's ongoing commitment to expanding its operations includes the recent inauguration of a new trade route linking Spain with the east coast of the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. This complements existing routes connecting Santander with Galicia, southern Spain, and other key European locations.

The Port Authority of Santander plans to approve an additional investment of three million euros to extend the crane tracks at the Raos 3 dock, facilitating simultaneous operations of two container ships. This initiative aims to further enhance the port’s capacity and service efficiency.
