The ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) has announced enhancements to its rail freight services, introducing new routes and increasing the frequency of existing connections to bolster North-South logistics in Europe. Among the notable changes is the transformation of the TransFER Vienna–Milan service into TransFER Vienna–Verona, optimizing transport times to one of Northern Italy's most vital economic regions. This adaptation provides customers with end-to-end, cross-border services from a single source, facilitating the movement of containers and swap bodies between the Sommacampagna-Sona terminal near Verona and the Vienna South CCT terminal.
RCG has also increased the frequency of the TransFER Duisburg–Villach–Ljubljana and the TransFER Budapest–Neuss routes. The former now operates five round trips per week, enhancing the connection between Slovenia and Germany via Villach with shorter transit times. Similarly, the latter service has expanded from three to five weekly round trips between Hungary and Germany, ensuring high-frequency links between Western Europe and the Southern and South-Eastern regions. Both services cater to a wide range of container sizes and swap bodies, including cranable and non-cranable trailers.
Adding to its portfolio of services, RCG has also launched a new maritime block train connection, the TransFER Burghausen–Trieste. Operating weekly, this service aims to streamline intermodal goods flows between Burghausen in Southern Germany and the Trieste CMR terminal on the Adriatic Sea. This connection not only supports the transport of 20-ft and 40-ft containers and dangerous goods but also reinforces Trieste's role as a crucial trade gateway for Central and Eastern Europe, the Mediterranean, and beyond.
