Based on an agreement from May 2022, Croatian rail freight carrier HŽ Cargo received the first out of a total of 17 modernised locomotives, Class 1141, from Končar.

The first modernised locomotive, 1141.320, was handed over on 4.9.2023. Through modernisation, HŽ Cargo will extend the lifetime of all 17 locomotives by another 14 years. These 25kV locomotives have a power output of 3,860 kW. After the modernisation at Končar, they will be equipped with an electro-dynamic brake of permanent power up to 1,740 kW with continuous current regulation and coordination with the pneumatic brake. Once the EUR 1.9 million modernisation contract is finished, HŽ Cargo committed to further discussions of the modernisation of its fleet.

Class 1141 has long been the only electric class in the roster of HŽ Cargo. Most recently, the company leased three Siemens Vectron locomotives from ELL and two of these locomotives from Railpool.
