Latvian Railways (LDz) have appointed a new board chairman to tackle challenges that the state-owned company faces in the current geopolitical situation.

VAS “Latvijas dzelzceļš”  (LDz) has a new board chairman. Rinalds Pļavnieks takes over the responsibility after working as a board member for two years, also assuming the role of temporary chairman.

Rinalds Pļavnieks will have to stabilise and develop the company in his new role. This includes EU funds management for passenger infrastructure modernisation, management of public railway infrastructure, or improvements in the operation of the internal control system. Rinalds was selected after three rounds of evaluations of 24 overall candidates. LDz board has a two-member board, with Rinalds Pļavnieks as the chairman and Vita Balode-Andrūsa as a board member.

LDz was established as a company in September 1991. It is the manager of the public railway infrastructure in Latvia and the controlling company of the Latvijas dzelzceļš Group, which, among others, has subsidiaries such as LDZ Cargo as a rail freight carrier, logistics and multimodal transport services company LDZ Loģistika, infrastructure and construction maintenance company LDZ Infrastruktūra, or rolling stock repair and maintenance company LDZ Ritošā Sastāva Serviss.
