The project is part of a broader initiative to support the reconstruction of Ukraine's railway infrastructure, following a donation of rail tracks by the Japanese government.
The operation employs a fleet of 20 2×45 ft InnoWaggons, each designed to carry 60 25-meter-long rails. The InnoWaggons utilize a pallet system that enables the secure stacking of rails without the need for additional securing straps or oiling of the loading sill. This configuration allows for the transportation of a significant volume of material, with each block train—spanning approximately 600 meters and weighing 2,500 tons—delivering up to 15 kilometers of track per trip.
The total delivery, expected to conclude in September, will see the transport of enough material to cover 195 kilometers of railway. The logistical effort underscores the efficiency of rail transport for heavy and bulky materials, particularly in contexts where rapid and reliable delivery is essential.
The operation is being carried out in collaboration of Innofreight with Rail STM. This partnership has enabled the seamless movement of materials from Gdańsk to the Ukrainian border, ensuring that the donated rails reach their destination on schedule.
As the project progresses, these block trains will continue to play a crucial role in supporting the delivery of vital infrastructure components to Ukraine, contributing to the ongoing efforts to rebuild the nation’s railway network.
