The contract covers the installation of Trainguard OBU and ATO on two multiple units. This is the first time that ETCS will be tested in the Scandinavian country in accordance with the latest standard, the applicable European Technical Specification TSI 2023.
"We are delighted to inaugurate the digital rail age in Finland with the testing of our proven train control system. Equipping an existing trainset for testing is an important step in this direction,” said Jens Nordmann, Head of Train Control at Siemens Mobility.
Siemens Mobility will install ETCS in two trains of the Pääkaupunkiseudun Junakalusto Oy fleet and also integrate Automated Train Operation (ATO over ETCS) into the solution. The joint test project paves the way for making Finnish rail transport more efficient and economical. The Finnish railway network currently covers some 6,000 kilometres of track.
