The locomotives will operate primarily in Germany and on the Rhine–Alpine Corridor linking the North Sea ports with Southern Europe.

Alpha Trains and Lineas have signed a lease agreement for two Stadler EURO9000 locomotives.

The two six-axle locomotives are part of Alpha Trains’ 2023 order for 12 EURO9000s from Stadler. The first locomotive is scheduled for delivery in March 2026. The agreement is structured as a full-service lease, with maintenance and technical support provided by Stadler Rail Services.

The EURO9000 is a hybrid multi-system locomotive combining electric and diesel traction. It is designed for cross-border freight services, allowing operation on electrified and non-electrified lines without locomotive changes. Lineas plans to deploy the locomotives on domestic German services, using the dual-power configuration to bridge gaps in electrification.

The project receives EUR 15m in funding from the German Federal Ministry of Transport.
