CZ LOKO has secured a contract to deliver up to 50 EffiShunter 1000M locomotives to ČD Cargo. After 2027, the fleet of ČD Cargo’s EffiShunter 1000M locomotives should thus reach 125 locomotives.
The locomotives will be produced by modernizing older 742 series units, incorporating updates to meet operational requirements, Czech transport media Zdopravy informs. The locomotives will be equipped with the European Train Control System (ETCS) supplied by CAF. Adjustments to battery capacity and enhancements to camera systems are among the changes based on feedback from current operations.
Under the framework agreement, ČD Cargo may adjust the total order, exercising an option to reduce the number by up to 10 units within a year of signing. Delivery is expected between 2025 and 2027.
The order aligns with ČD Cargo's ongoing efforts to reduce the number of diesel locomotives in its fleet. Modernized locomotives are expected to replace older units, which require larger reserves due to higher failure rates. It reflects trends in freight volumes and the anticipated electrification of rail lines in the Czech Republic.
