The facility's initial project involves constructing 34 Alstom Coradia Stream trains intended for Romania's regional transport, part of a broader framework agreement with the Romanian railway authority ARF, which could see up to 40 trains produced.
The new production line not only secures over 1,000 jobs at the Bautzen site but also positively impacts regional suppliers.
The Coradia Stream trains being produced for Romania will feature six cars each, offering a total of 350 seats. These low-floor vehicles are designed for easy passenger access, equipped with advanced passenger information systems and ample luggage space. They can reach speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour.
The Bautzen plant, located in Lusatia, now adds regional train production to its existing focus on trams and mainline railway projects. This includes past work on S-Bahn and double-decker trains for both the German and international markets. The addition of the regional train segment enhances the plant's versatility, preparing it for a range of future projects.
Established in 1846, the Bautzen site is one of Alstom's most historic locations, with a strong emphasis on tram and regional train production and testing. Currently employing around 1,100 people, the plant's projects include S-Bahn trains for Hamburg, double-decker trains for Israel, and trams for several German cities and Gothenburg.
