The Coradia Stream unit delivered to Romania is part of ARF's order for 37 trains. Alstom will also provide a 15-year maintenance of these trains. Made in the Polish plant of Alstom, Coradia Stream will first undergo static and then dynamic tests on the Faurei Ring of AFER and then on the public railway network.
Once accepted by ARF, the train will be handed over to the operator – CFR. Alstom is also building a modern depot in Bucharest to provide maintenance services for the new trains. A depot equipped for testing and maintenance operations – will be ready by the end of January 2024, and the full completion is expected in the second half of 2024. Once in operation, they will be deployed on București – Brașov and București - Constanța routes.
In September 2023, ARF signed more contracts for EMUs deliveries. The winner of both is Polish PESA, which will provide 20 trains (with maintenance for 15 years) for Oradea – Cluj Napoca – Sighișoara – Brașov. and Cluj Napoca – Alba lulia – Simeria – Târgu Jiu – Craiova – Calafat routes. The contract includes an option for 9 more units and 15 more years of maintenance.
Another 62 PESA trains on the Regio160 platform (with 15-year maintenance) will be deployed as follows:
- 20 EMUs for Bucharest N – Ploiești S – Adjud, and Iași – Pașcani – Suceava, Bacău – Pașcani routes
