The agreement was established between Türkiye Rail System Vehicles Industry Inc. (TÜRASAŞ) and TCDD Taşımacılık and involves the production of 95 Eskişehir 5000 electric locomotives.
Turkish minister of transport pointed out that the consolidation of TÜLOMSAŞ, TÜDEMSAŞ, and TÜVASAŞ under TÜRASAŞ in 2020 unified the production and development efforts in the domestic railway vehicle sector. This consolidation has positioned TÜRASAŞ as a key manufacturer in the Middle East, with a diverse production line that includes locomotives, trainsets, and various other rail system components.
In addition to the E5000 project, the ministry has also been working on other rail system developments, such as own high-speed trainset, with plans to complete a prototype by 2024. These initiatives are part of Turkey's efforts to improve its domestic rail vehicle production, reduce dependency on foreign technology, and increase the localization rate in this sector.
The E5000 locomotive has a 5 MW power output, AC-AC drive system, TSI certification and reaches a maximum speed of 140 km / h.
