In an event held in the company headquarters in Wroclaw on 28 Feb 2024, CARGOUNIT, the biggest leasing locomotives leasing company in Poland and number 5 in Europe, signed the biggest agreement for delivery of multisystem locomotives and one of the biggest locomotive orders in Poland.
The framework agreement encompasses 100 Vectron platform locomotives. The first call-off has already been confirmed, consisting of 30 MS Vectrons and 10 Smartrons (which CARGOUNIT leases in Romanian market). Their delivery will start in 2025.
The long-standing cooperation of CARGOUNIT with Siemens dates back to 2018, when a single locomotive of the Vectron platform was in the fleet of CARGOUNIT. If the agreement gets fully exploited, the fleet will grow to 144 Vectron and Smartron locomotives owned by this leasing company.
CARGOUNIT's Vectron customers include Bahnoperator, DB Cargo Polska, Lotos Kolej, Freightliner PL, Ost-West Logistics in the Polish market, ČD Cargo and LokoTrain in the Czech market, Helrom in the German market and PKP Intercity on the cross-border Poland-Germany market.
Through this contract, Siemens will double the fleet of Vectron locomotives delivered to the Polish market.
CARGOUNIT, founded in 2003, entered the locomotives leasing in 2012. In 2017 it took over the fleet of company Lokomotiv and since has been acquiring new locomotives from various suppliers:
- The first Siemens Vectron locomotive in 2018
- 5 Siemens Vectron MS locomotives in 2019
- 30 Siemens Vectron MS locomotives in 2021
- 30 Pesa Gama Marthon locomotives in 2022
- 30 Newag Dragon 2 locomotives in 2023
- 100 Siemens Vectron platform locomotives in 2024
The new Vectron MS locomotives for CARGOUNIT will be intended for operation in Poland, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, the Netherlands, Romania, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, Bulgaria and Belgium, among others. Smartron locomotives, on the other hand, will be able to operate in Germany, Bulgaria or Romania.
