In its centennial year, the Vigezzina-Centovalli Railway will see the delivery of eight new multiple units.

Ferrovie Autolinee Regional Ticinesi SA (FART) will get its new trains delivered in November 2024, while the contract has been ongoing since December 2020.

The addition of these new multiple units signifies a significant upgrade in terms of efficiency and modernity for FART. Each unit has been designed to comply fully with the Disability Act (LDIS), ensuring accessibility and comfort for all passengers. This collaboration with Stadler is particularly noteworthy as it marks the first instance of Stadler constructing customized narrow-gauge multiple units specifically for regional and cross-border rail transport in Ticino.

The new rolling stock comprises four narrow-gauge multiple units, each with four carriages. These units are destined for international services operating between the north side of Lago Maggiore in Locarno (CH) and Domodossola (IT). Additionally, four three-car trains are being prepared for regional transport routes between Locarno and Camedo.

In terms of specifications, the trains intended for regional service will measure approximately 49 meters in length and offer seating for 109 passengers. The international service trains will be longer, approximately 63 meters, and equipped to accommodate 142 passengers. Enhancing the travel experience, an innovative information system for passengers will be featured on board these trains.
