MÁV-START, a Hungarian railway company, has started a project to overhaul 25 Traxx electric locomotives in its fleet in collaboration with Alstom and MÁV VAGON. The Traxx locomotives, the youngest in the MÁV-START fleet, have cumulatively covered over 60 million kilometres.
MÁV VAGON is tasked with the renovation of the bogies, disassembling and reassembling the engines. Alstom's responsibilities include overhauling the engines and supplying new axles and wheel rims. The renovation work requires taking the locomotives out of service sequentially for the replacement of the bogies, after which they are returned to service.
The bogies are being disassembled, assembled, and operationalized at MÁV VAGON's headquarters in Szolnok, Hungary. Concurrently, the engine overhaul is being conducted in Hennigsdorf, Germany. The first shipment of engines for renovation was dispatched from Szolnok on 12.12.2023. After the completion of repairs, these engines are expected to be returned and installed in the renovated bogies by the first quarter of the following year.
