In May 2023, Railmarket News informed you about AITX's entrance into Europe. The North American provider of wagon services established its European branch, AITX Rail Europe. Now, the real orders are starting to get realized.
AITX Rail Europe has partnered with Slovakian wagons manufacturer Tatravagónka and ordered 80’ Sggnss XL wagons from the manufacturer. These wagons can carry two 40’ containers each in 30 various loading combinations.
These wagons, called “LIGHT EIGHTY”, were developed by Tatravagónka in 2010 on the impulse of METRANS. With its low weight of 22 tonnes, this wagon can carry five various types of containers and swap bodies. By using these wagons, when compared to the standard 80’ articulated wagon, the operator can add one additional wagon to the trainset. Tatravagónka has already produced over 5,000 of these wagons on the European market.
