The initiative is part of PERN's broader strategy to strengthen its position as a leader in raw material and fuel logistics in Poland.

PERN, a Polish oil and fuel logistics company, has entered into an agreement with Colas Rail Polska to enhance its rail tanker services at the PERN Fuel Base in Nowa Wieś Wielka. This project aims to double the capacity for accepting oil products by rail, addressing the increasing demand for rail-based fuel deliveries. The investment will streamline logistics for fuel imports from the Dębogórze fuel hub and transfers from the Gdańsk Refinery to the southern regions.

On July 15, 2024, the agreement was formalized, initiating the construction of an extensive rail front and additional parking tracks at PERN's Fuel Base No. 2. The infrastructure upgrade is designed to improve the speed and efficiency of wagon services and unloading processes. The new rail front will comply with stringent environmental and occupational safety standards. There is also potential for future development to accommodate new products, including Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (HVO) fuels, which serve as an alternative to diesel.

The project will include the construction of 21 double-sided unloading stations, allowing for the simultaneous unloading of up to 30 rail tankers. Each station will feature three connections for diesel oil, petrol, and heating oil. Additionally, 3.5 kilometers of new track sections will be built to enhance rail tanker operations.

This expansion aims to address economic and geopolitical challenges by diversifying services. The construction is expected to be completed by 2025.

Colas Rail Polska brings extensive experience in railway projects to this partnership. Previously, from 2020 to 2022, the company increased the loading capacity at the rail tanker loading facility at Fuel Base No. 21 in Dębogórze and recently completed track modernization at the same location.

PERN operates as a key player in Poland's oil and fuel logistics, managing strategic energy infrastructure crucial for the country's security. It oversees nineteen fuel depots with a total capacity of approximately 2.65 million m³ and four crude oil depots with over 4.1 million m³ capacity.
