Huelva Goods Transport Terminal to Receive €3.1 Million Upgrade
At the Huelva goods transport terminal, Adif plans to invest €3.1 million to renew infrastructure and improve the overall functionality of the facility. This project will focus on renewing the rail, sleepers, and ballast across 15 tracks, including three reception and dispatch tracks, three for the storage of motor materials and supplies, and nine in the sorting beam. Additionally, the upgrade will improve the quality of type A switches by replacing sleepers, crossings, and switches, which will facilitate smoother transitions between tracks and increase accessibility.
Tecsa Empresa Constructora will execute the upgrade works at the Huelva terminal, a strategic point in the rail network that connects Huelva with Seville and Zafra. In 2023, this terminal processed 1,586 trains across its extensive facilities, which cover about 25 hectares and include 22 tracks of varying lengths from 532 to 1,484 meters.
€4.5 Million Renovation at La Negrilla Terminal in Seville
Simultaneously, Adif is investing €4.5 million in the La Negrilla freight terminal in Seville. The renovation will include the replacement of rails and the installation of new concrete sleepers and ballast on 11 tracks. These tracks include two general tracks, three for reception and dispatch, one handle track, and five dedicated to warehouse and storage area operations.
Improvements at La Negrilla also extend to the terminal's drainage system, where a geogrid and a geotextile layer will be installed over a ballast sublayer with a slight transverse slope to enhance drainage efficiency. The works will be carried out by the UTE formed by Contratas y Servicios Ferroviarios and Ortiz Construcciones y Proyectos.
The La Negrilla terminal is a crucial facility within the southern hub of Spain’s freight rail network, operational 24/7 and comprising track yards, warehouses, docks, and offices. It facilitates various train operations and handled 759 trains and 14,810 Intermodal Transport Units (ITUs) in 2023. Located to the east of Seville, near the Freight Transport Center, the terminal is a key part of the Seville Railway Arterial Network and provides a direct link to the Port of Seville.
