Construction of the new building is scheduled to begin in 2024 and be completed by 2026.

Siemens Mobility is investing around €150 million to expand its service depot in Dortmund-Eving to 87.550 m² in order to meet the growing demand for rail services. The plan is to build an additional 12.300 m² service hall with storage facilities, offices and workshops for the maintenance of trains up to 400 metres long. The Siemens Mobility depot in Dortmund currently has a total area of 70.000 m² and will have an area of 157.550 m² when the project is completed.

"To maximize efficiency, innovative Siemens technologies such as AI-based maintenance with Railigent X, 3D printing, and highly automated services are used at the facility. By investing in additional depot capacity, we are responding to the growing demand for services," said Michael Peter, CEO Siemens Mobility.

The digital depot in Dortmund has been in operation since 2018. When the new facility is completed in 2026, the service centre will employ up to 250 people.

At the Dortmund depot, all maintenance processes can be managed completely digitally. Employees receive their work orders and all relevant maintenance and repair information directly on their tablets. The trains continuously transmit status data from sensors to the Railigent X digital platform, where it is automatically processed. A high-speed train, for example, generates up to 30 GB of data per month. Siemens Mobility's Railigent X application suite analyses this data using AI-based algorithms to predict faults as accurately as possible and make preventive maintenance recommendations.
