This upgrade aims to enhance the Adif terminal's operational reliability, safety, and consistency of train movements. The initiative is expected to boost rail freight transport in the region surrounding Seville.
The renovation plan includes replacing rails, installing concrete sleepers, and installing new ballast across 11 tracks at the terminal. These include two general tracks, three for reception and dispatch, a handling track, and five tracks within the warehouse area.
The La Negrilla terminal, spanning 14 hectares, plays a crucial role in the southern junction of Seville, handling freight rail traffic for the city and its surroundings. Operating around the clock, the terminal managed 876 trains and handled 15,164 Intermodal Loading Units (ICUs) in 2022. The terminal's facilities include track yards, warehouses, docks, and offices, providing essential services for train operations and intermodal unit handling.
Located east of Seville and adjacent to the Freight Transport Center, La Negrilla is part of the Seville Railway Arterial Network. It links to the Port of Seville, with plans to improve this connection through the new railway access. This development will enable direct train access to the port, eliminating the need for passing and locomotive reversal manoeuvres at nearby stations.
