Starting October 24, Helrom is expanding its network with a new freight route connecting Regensburg in Germany to Verona in Italy via the Brenner Pass.
Covering 560 kilometers, the new route provides shippers and freight forwarders with four departures per week in each direction. Plans are in place to increase frequency with additional trips from 2025 onwards. The service is designed to be efficient and reliable, catering to non-craneable trailers and time-critical goods, thus offering a viable alternative to traditional road haulage.
The introduction of this route comes at a critical time, as the planned renovation of the Lueg Bridge will impose restrictions on truck traffic from January 2025. Existing limitations such as night-time driving bans and strict emission standards further highlight the need for alternative transport solutions on the Brenner corridor. Helrom's rail service aims to alleviate road congestion and contribute to smoother traffic flow.
A key feature of Helrom's concept is the ability to load all types of truck semi-trailers without the need for special terminals. The company's patented freight wagon technology allows even non-craneable trailers to be easily transferred onto rail. This approach lowers entry barriers for freight forwarders and shippers, enabling them to adopt intermodal transport without investing in new equipment. Small and medium-sized enterprises can particularly benefit from this accessible solution to enhance the sustainability of their logistics operations.
