PKP LHS, a railway company, reported transporting 2.9 million tons of cargo in the first quarter of 2024, marking its highest first-quarter performance to date. This volume shows an increase of 152,354 tons over the same period last year.
There was also considerable growth in intermodal transport, with import volumes rising by 97% and export volumes by 77.5%. These numbers reflect the company’s focus on its container transport services, including transhipment and forwarding services for new intermodal projects.
In response to growing transportation demands between Poland and Ukraine, PKP LHS has maintained its investment efforts. Current projects include constructing a new loading yard at the Szczebrzeszyn LHS station, expanding the Hrubieszów LHS station (stage II), and building a LCS at the Sędziszów LHS station. The company has allocated nearly EUR 7 million for these investments in the first quarter alone.
Further, the company completed the construction of four additional silos for bulk materials at the LHS Transhipment Terminal in Szczebrzeszyn in early April. Additionally, the reconstruction of the track system at the Zamość Bortatycze LHS station is scheduled for completion in May. These developments are part of PKP LHS's ongoing infrastructure enhancement to support its operational capabilities.
