Volker Pohlmann (57) becomes Managing Director of Ziel Terminal GmbH as of 15 October. The joint venture between Samskip, Duisburger Hafen AG and TX Logistik AG operates the intermodal terminal at logport III in Duisburg-Hohenbudberg. The European Commission has already approved the joint venture, clearing the way for the three shareholders to appoint a managing director.
Volker Pohlmann brings many years of experience in logistics to his new position. Prior to his appointment as Managing Director of Ziel Terminal GmbH, he was Branch Manager of neska Schiffahrts- und Speditionskontor GmbH in Cologne and Düsseldorf. His responsibilities at the company, which specialises in the trimodal handling of industrial and commercial goods, included business development and process optimisation. A graduate in business administration with a specialisation in logistics, he now intends to apply his extensive knowledge and expertise at Ziel Terminal GmbH. Other stations in his professional career were BLG International Forwarding GmbH & Co. KG and transport companies with a focus on international land transport.
With the appointment of a Managing Director, the three shareholders see the joint venture as strengthened, well-positioned in terms of personnel and equipped for sustainable growth. Samskip holds a 49.8 percent stake in the joint venture, while duisport and TX Logistik AG, part of the Mercitalia Group, each hold 25.1 percent.
The 140,000 square metre terminal facility in Duisburg-Hohenbudberg has seven handling tracks, each 720 metres long, two shunting tracks and two high-performance gantry cranes for transhipment between road and rail. The annual handling capacity is up to 250,000 loading units per year.
