Established in 1945, the company has evolved into a leading European supplier of complete railway tank cars for the transportation of LPG, ammonia, and CO₂, while continuing to be at the forefront of pressure vessel manufacturing.
The company’s post-war activity centred on steel structures, bent pipelines, and industrial installations. By the 1950s, CHEMET was producing equipment for ammonia storage, industrial refrigeration, and other pressure applications. During this period, work with pressurised and hazardous media established engineering standards that later supported the transition into transportable vessels and railway tank cars.
In the 1990s, CHEMET began serial production of LPG storage tanks, including stationary tanks and transportable vessels delivered to international markets. The expansion of transportable vessels manufacturing created the certification and quality framework required later also for railway applications.
At the beginning of the 21st century, CHEMET produced its first rail tanks for carriage of hazardous and toxic chemicals and extended its capabilities to cryogenic tanks and installations.
In the following decade, the company moved from tanks production to deliveries of complete railway tank cars for LPG, ammonia, and butadiene. It also executed projects involving large-scale LPG and later CO₂ storage tanks and developed rail-compatible solutions for CO₂ logistics, reflecting increasing demand for pressurised gas transport.
Today, CHEMET operates four production facilities—two in Poland and two in France. The French plants manufacture and refurbish stationery and transportable pressure vessels, road tankers, and cylinders for liquefied gases. Fully automated production line placed in France, with 32 welding robots, is one of the most high tech solution in Europe. The Polish facilities focus on the design and production of complete installations and railway tank cars, including manufacturing, testing, and certification.
The company’s rail portfolio covers tank cars for LPG, ammonia, bioLPG, rDME, caustic soda, and CO2 transportation. Its products serve chemical producers, gas suppliers, and rail freight operators across Europe.
