Technology in line with the European Green Deal for sustainable rail transport promises increased operational flexibility and efficiency.

Nevomo has announced a significant transition from research and development to product homologation and commercialization of its MagRail Booster. The move marks a leap into a new era of sustainable rail innovation, with commercialization set to begin in 2024.

The MagRail Booster, part of Nevomo's MagRail product portfolio, is a retrofit solution for existing rail vehicles. It features an electromagnetic propulsion system with a linear motor that enables the independent movement of rail cars without a locomotive. This technology is the first of its kind in the world and promises to transform the rail industry by enabling traffic automation, infrastructure electrification, and increased operational flexibility.

Nevomo has entered into a strategic collaboration agreement with TÜV Rheinland, an independent assessment provider, and PJ Motion, specialists in authorization management for track-bound vehicles. This collaboration is essential to ensure that the MagRail Booster complies with CENELEC and industry safety standards for railway applications. TÜV Rheinland's certification is expected to pave the way for the market introduction of this innovative product.

Ongoing trials on Nevomo's track in Nowa Sarzyna with retrofitted GATX wagons have demonstrated the potential of the MagRail Booster to revolutionize rail transport. The technology allows wagons to operate autonomously, either individually or as a full train, and to connect or disconnect with other wagons automatically.

“Our partnership with TÜV Rheinland and PJ Motion marks a next major step in Nevomo's journey. As we move from research and development to commercialization, this collaboration will ensure that MagRail Booster is not only an innovative product, but also a benchmark for safety, efficiency and reliability in rail transport. Adapting to this significant phase in the company's journey, Nevomo is undergoing a series of strategic organizational adaptations aimed at reshaping the company's structure to ensure effective management and operations in the realities of a changing environment,” said Ben Paczek, CEO and Co-Founder of Nevomo.
