The project focuses on addressing the needs of the European and UK rail freight sectors.

At Innotrans 2024, Nexrail and Stadler Valencia entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to examine a potential collaboration on the development of dual-mode and hybrid locomotives.

The proposed locomotives are designed to operate using panto-electric propulsion, with the ability to switch to alternative energy sources when required. This capability would allow the locomotives to serve both electrified and non-electrified rail sections, ensuring operational continuity across various routes.

The collaboration combines Nexrail’s experience in leasing solutions with Stadler’s expertise in locomotive platforms, aimed at offering more versatile and energy-efficient traction for freight operations. The locomotives are expected to play a role in reducing emissions and lowering operational costs by optimizing energy usage.

The MoU reflects both firms’ ongoing interest in providing adaptable and sustainable rail solutions that align with the changing requirements of European and UK freight markets. The potential partnership could extend Stadler’s presence within these sectors, while offering Nexrail more options in their leasing portfolio.
