The Swiss cross-European north-south operator is ordering 20 more locomotives via SüdLeasing.

SBB Cargo International has placed an order for 20 additional Vectron multi-system locomotives equipped with the XLoad package. The locomotives, to be leased from SüdLeasing, are part of a long-term contract that includes a 15-year maintenance agreement with Siemens Mobility.

The XLoad package, integrated into the Vectron locomotives, aims to enhance traction capability, allowing for increased hauling capacity and efficiency. This enables the operation of heavier trains in single traction on the Swiss north-south axis, potentially eliminating the need for a second four-axle booster locomotive. The locomotives can reach a maximum speed of 160 km/h.

This order brings the total number of Vectron locomotives in SBB Cargo International's fleet to 78. The new units will be utilized for transalpine transport, with operational approval across Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy, and the Netherlands. All locomotives are equipped with the European Train Control System (ETCS) BL3 and the necessary national train control systems.
