With the existing fleet, the total number of PESA Gama locomotives with a last-mile shunting module will reach 40 by the end of 2024.

CARGOUNIT, a leading locomotives leasing company in Central and Eastern Europe, has increased its order of Gama Marathon locomotives from PESA. This development follows an amendment to the initial agreement signed in 2022 for supplying electric locomotives with last-mile diesel engines.

In total, 40 Gama Marathon locomotives will be added to the largest rolling stock pool in Central and Eastern Europe. The decision to increase the order was influenced by the positive market response to the capability of these locomotives, which allows for efficient electric traction and subsequent shunting operations in ports or terminals. This functionality has been praised for saving time, reducing costs, and improving transport efficiency.

At the moment, CARGOUNIT operates 19 such locomotives and expects to complete the delivery of all 40 units by the end of 2024.

PESA Bydgoszcz has produced and delivered 62 electric locomotives with last-mile engines used by various Polish carriers. The company plans to manufacture at least 45 more Gama Marathon locomotives in the coming years, with the majority destined for CARGOUNIT.

CARGOUNIT's strategy focuses on expanding in Central and Eastern European countries by offering modern electric locomotives in response to the increasing demand for rail transport and the need to replace older models with more advanced ones.
