The second largest contract signed for Railcare means long-term stability of the company's transport business.

Railcare, the Sweden-based rail services company, offers mainly track maintenance and corresponding machinery services domestically and in the UK.

But the company also has a transportation division in Sweden. It has recently secured a renewed contract for iron ore transport with LKAB Malmtrafik. In the past, it has also been contracted by the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) to provide emergency standby locomotives. This contract has just been extended.

The five-year new contract for standby locomotives covers six locations, and the first assignment starts at the beginning of 2025. The locations are Borlänge (an extension of the existing contract), Gävle, Hallsberg, Ånge, Nässjö and Älmhult. The value of the five-year contract is almost EUR 6.8 million.

The role of Railcare in these contracts is to have locomotives and crews available 24/7 for rescue operations in case a train has an unplanned stop on the line that would lead to traffic stoppage. Railcare then needs to clear the line as soon as possible. Railcare leases EffiShunter 1000 locomotives from Trainpoint for this purpose. But Railcare has five locomotives of this type on order from CZ Loko with an option for four additional ones.
