Abu Dhabi–Dubai high-speed rail project announced, passenger train fleet presented

The UAE has announced a high-speed train project connecting Abu Dhabi and Dubai, with Etihad Rail overseeing development and operation.

The high-speed train is designed to reach speeds of up to 350 km/h, allowing passengers to travel between Abu Dhabi and Dubai in approximately 30 minutes. The planned route includes stops at key locations, ensuring connectivity with strategic destinations. The project aligns with national transport objectives and ongoing railway expansion efforts.

During the announcement, details were also shared about the UAE’s first passenger train fleet, which will operate at speeds of up to 200 km/h. A presentation showcased the train’s features, with an emphasis on comfort and efficiency. In addition, four passenger rail stations were introduced, set to be built in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah. These stations are expected to integrate with metro and bus networks, providing a multi-modal transport system.

Project contracts are progressing, with tenders issued and network designs approved. Future phases will develop additional infrastructure to support rail expansion. The UAE’s broader rail plans include enhancing passenger and freight movement across the country, with the high-speed train forming a component of this strategy.
