ÖBB continues to modernize its fleet, setting new standards in passenger experience and environmental responsibility in rail transport.

Siemens Mobility has taken a major step forward in rail transport by delivering the first batch of 70 Mireo trains to the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB). This order, worth more than €800 million, is part of a framework agreement from 2023 and marks a consistent further development of the Mireo platform. The trains, to be delivered from the end of 2027, are expected to redefine regional and long-distance rail travel in Austria.

The Mireo trains, a further development of Siemens Mobility's successful electric multiple-units in Europe, are designed for speeds up to 160 km/h. They boast a range of passenger amenities, including air conditioning, WiFi service, barrier-free access, electrical plugs, and dedicated spaces for skis, snowboards, buggies, wheelchairs, and bicycles.

Michael Peter, CEO of Siemens Mobility, emphasizes the partnership with ÖBB and the innovations of the Mireo platform, particularly the single-car concept and the ability to operate across borders. The trains promise to significantly increase the attractiveness of ÖBB's local and regional transport services.

The Mireo's lightweight construction, energy-efficient design, and use of natural refrigerants in the air-conditioning systems underline its environmental sustainability. The trains are built using aluminum and innovative lightweight technology for the inner bearing bogies, enhancing both energy efficiency and passenger comfort.
