Adif AV has taken important steps towards integrating the high-speed rail system in Bilbao by commissioning studies and projects for the transformation of the Abando Indalecio Prieto Intermodal Station. This project aims to strengthen intermodality, improve pedestrian flow, ensure efficient use of resources, and promote universal accessibility in the city of Bilbao.
The redevelopment includes plans for a new underground vestibule connecting the conventional and metric (RAM) networks to the high-speed line. This will improve connectivity between different modes of transport and significantly benefit the urban complex. The project will also maintain current rail services while upgrading the station. The transformation of Abando station will establish it as a key node in Bilbao's railway system, connecting different networks and promoting better access and integration with the city's public spaces.
