The upgrade is intended to support passenger and freight traffic for the next 25 years, particularly in anticipation of increased volumes following the opening of the Divača–Koper second track.

SŽ – Infrastruktura began renovation works on the Verd–Logatec railway section on 4 August 2025, with completion scheduled for 10 December 2025. The project involves replacing the entire upper structure on both tracks, including ballast, sleepers, and rails.

The investment is valued at EUR 40.86 million and is funded through allocations for the public service of railway infrastructure renewal.

During the works, freight operations will continue with reduced capacity due to single-track operation, while passenger services will see more substantial changes. A total of 21 replacement bus services will operate between Logatec and Borovnica, and between Ljubljana and Logatec, with adjusted timetables reflecting extended travel times. For passengers to and from Postojna, Sežana and coastal destinations, transfers between buses and trains will take place in Logatec.

Most IC and RG services to Koper, as well as international trains to Italy and Croatia, will run without replacement services.
