LTG Group and Ukrainian Railways have signed a deal to work together on a route from Klaipėda to Kyiv through Poland.

The inaugural test runs of the intermodal cargo transportation route are scheduled for this year. Going forward, cargo is anticipated to be transported on a regular basis along this route. This will establish an efficient transport corridor between Lithuania and Ukraine, capitalising on the potential of the countries' railways, port terminals, and border crossing points.

"Ukraine and Ukrainian Railways are key partners in ensuring smooth cargo movement between our countries and in expanding export and import opportunities through the Port of Klaipėda between Ukraine and Scandinavia. We are consistently supporting Ukraine in its efforts to develop alternative logistics solutions and increase the competitiveness of both countries' businesses in the region," says Egidijus Lazauskas, CEO of LTG Group.

The MoU was signed in Vilnius by Yevhen Liashchenko, CEO of Ukrainian Railways, and Viacheslav Yeromin, member of the management board. Also present were E. Lazauskas, CEO of LTG Group, and Eglė Šimė, CEO of LTG Cargo.

The companies will analyse the market, prepare solutions and develop a plan to implement the project.

This is not the first MoU between Lithuanian and Ukrainian railways to help Ukraine integrate into the European railway network. Last year, LTG Group and Ukrainian Railways signed an agreement in Munich to work together on LTG's FREE Rail programme. This aims to create a railway operation model based on EU standards and best practices. This project will make it easier for Ukraine to integrate with Europe and will create more opportunities for businesses, residents and the western railway industry.
