A consortium of Contargo, SFI GmbH and the Ziegler Group will operate the new bimodal container terminal in the Danube port of Straubing-Sand near Regensburg from the second quarter of 2025.

The business lease agreement was signed at the end of August 2023. The winner of the terminal operation tender, Contargo Combitrac Straubing-Sand GmbH JV, will start operating the newly-built terminal on approximately 50,000 sqm with an estimated ten trains per week to be transloaded from road to rail.

The terminal will benefit from the proximity of industries in Germany's Lower Bavaria and Upper Palatine regions and the nearby main railway corridor to Austria. The terminal will enable storage of up to 1,000 TEUs with potential expansion.

Contargo integrates container transport between the western seaports, Germany’s North Sea ports and the European hinterland. It operates 24 terminals, handling over 2.1 million TEUs annually. Apart from Germany, the company is also present in the Netherlands, France and Switzerland.
